A tragic accident occurred on Raikot Road in the Jagraon sub-division of Ludhiana district on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a seven-year-old boy, Gurman Singh, and the hospitalization of five other children, according to police reports. Gurman, a Class 1 student from the nearby Akhara village, fell out of the school van and died on the spot due to the impact of the crash. The five hospitalized children are in stable condition.
Inspector Amritpal Singh, the station house officer of Jagraon city, stated that a search is underway for the driver, Chamkaur Singh, who fled the scene after abandoning the van. The accident occurred with 25 children in the van, which belonged to a private school on Raikot Road. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver lost control, causing the van to crash into a tree. They promptly transported the injured children to a nearby hospital and alerted the police.
Some children with minor injuries were treated and discharged after receiving first aid at the hospital. In response to the incident, parents of the affected children held a protest and blocked Raikot Road, demanding the arrest of the driver, whom they claimed was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
