Rapid Police Response Saves Life After Social Media Alert

In a critical intervention, Meta AI's monitoring system has played a pivotal role in preventing a tragedy in Lucknow. A 21-year-old woman, distressed by her recent separation from her husband, was saved from attempting suicide thanks to a prompt alert from Meta.

The Incident

On a recent Saturday, the woman, feeling abandoned and despondent after her husband left her, recorded a distressing video with a noose around her neck and shared it on social media. The video quickly went viral, catching the attention of Meta’s AI systems, which flagged it for immediate action.

Police Response

The alert was received by the Social Media Centre of the Directorate General of Police, prompting an immediate response. ACP Rajneesh Verma from Mohanlalganj reported that the police team acted swiftly after receiving the notification. “At around noon, Meta AI alerted us to a video of a young woman hanging from a noose,” Verma told PTI. “Our team reached the location promptly and was able to rescue her.”
 

Background and Investigation

According to the police, the woman had been involved in a romantic relationship with a man from another locality. They had married in an Arya Samaj temple four months ago. However, as their marriage was not legally recognized, the man abandoned her and returned to his home. This left the woman in severe emotional distress.

In her state of despair, she created the noose, filmed the video, and posted it online. The video’s viral spread led to Meta's alert system flagging the post, which ultimately facilitated the rescue operation.

Aftermath and Current Status

Upon arriving at the scene, the police, including a female officer, managed to engage with the woman and provide her with immediate counseling. She was safely removed from the precarious situation and is now in good health, with ongoing support from the police.

In a subsequent investigation, the woman’s husband was arrested based on her complaint. The case is still under investigation, and the woman continues to receive counseling to address her emotional trauma.
